My stream informed me about World Book Day, thanks to app developers in the children's digital story space announcing that for World Book Day (which is today, March 1) they are offering their apps for free or at a discounted price (usually 0.99c).
World Book Day has embraced technology, with one event being held at an Apple Store which will be available to view on iTunes starting tomorrow. (Note: World Book Day is very UK-centric, but recognized globally as it was established by the United Nations.)
So, it appears that the future of the book is more than just printed pages, as publishers and app developers come together and celebrate World Book Day. I wonder if we will see in the future World App Day or World Tablet Day. Given that there isn't one, I guess creators of digital content will have to keep finding ways to integrate with the book folks.
Interestingly, given the shift towards digital content and the changing nature of how we share, copy and distribute content World Book Day was officially titled World Book and Copyright Day by UNESCO when it was established in 1995.
