Read Across America Day, the largest reading event in the nation, is coming up next week on March 2!
Read Across America is a program from the National Education Association that celebrates and encourages reading for children and teens. Read Across America Day raises awareness for children's literacy each year on Dr. Seuss's birthday.
This year Read Across America is celebrating The Lorax with story times and events across the country. Here are a few ways you can "read with the trees" and join in the fun.
On Saturday, February 25, Target stores around the U.S. are hosting a special Dr. Seuss story time with a reading of The Lorax. Look for a Target near you to take part in the event.
After reading the book, you and your kids can check out The Lorax Project online for more information, activities, and a pledge to help the environment.
You can also print out some fun activity sheets featuring the film adaptation, Dr. Seuss's The Lorax, provided by the National Education Association, as well as other printables from Seussville.
And finally, you can enter for a giveaway for your own copy of The Lorax, courtesy of Universal Studios, the maker of The Lorax movie which is premiering this Friday, March 2,, right here on GeekMom! Just leave us a comment below telling us which Dr. Seuss book is your favorite. Submit your comment by midnight on Tuesday, February 28, and we'll choose three winners from all the entries received. Unfortunately, we have to limit the entries to U.S. only for shipping reasons.
Special thanks to Universal for providing copies of The Lorax.
