Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr.) may say that he — and by extension Iron Man — was ruled out of the Avengers Initiative because he was “volatile, self-obsessed and [doesn’t] play well with others,” and Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) notes, “We’re not a team. We’re a time bomb.”
But clearly the posse is coming together, and by the end of the clip — when Iron Man tells his teammates, “Guys, I’m bringing the party to you” — it’s impossible not to be craving a chance to join him (and Thor, and Black Widow, and Hawkeye, and Captain America …).
What we don’t see in this two-and-a-half-minute clip is how the bickering gang learns to get along. Luckily, the Marvel Comics misfits discover their mission is greater than their differences (or something).
Chris Hemsworth, who plays the hammer-wielding Thor in the upcoming film, said in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that his character eventually bonds with his fellow heroes because of their outcast status.
“He’s not quite the odd one out as much as he was in Thor,” Hemsworth told EW. “These guys … one of them wears an iron suit, one of them turns into a big, green monster. They all have these crazy personalities, and alter egos. They’re misfits, and that’s how they fit, in a funny way.”
We noted Tuesday that we were beyond excited for The Avengers, but not so thrilled with the latest poster for the film. Today you can consider us fully back aboard the Massive-Marvel-Geek-Out Express.
The Avengers hits theaters May 4.
