Additional copies of Mass Effect 3 ‘s “Space Edition” will be deployed in other cities across the globe including Las Vegas, New York, London, Paris and Berlin until the final launch on Feb. 29, which gives gamers the unique opportunity to own the game before its official release on March 6 by tracking down the copies as they travel back to Earth.

But BioWare isn’t merely sticking copies of Mass Effect 3 to rockets and then blasting them off into space. The launches employ advanced GPS tracking devices, high-altitude weather balloons and HD cameras to capture their ascent and decent from the planet on film. A number of experts from the scientific community are also facilitating the event, including Dr. Ben Longmier of the University of Houston’s Project Aether.

So what do you have to do to actually get one of these games? Contestants must first create an EA Online account, track down copies of the game using EA’s GPS system and then race to a landing destination.

The first two people to arrive at each correct location will win either a PS3 or Xbox 360 copy of the game that was sent into orbit, along with some other Mass Effect collectables including a hat, shirt, hoodie, water bottle, art book and messenger bag.
