New footage from the year's catchiest movie concept portrays Abraham Lincoln as a leader with one hell of an ax to grind. And it has nothing to do with the Civil War.

The new trailer, embedded above, casts the 16th president of the United States as an action hero with buckets of vampire blood on his hands. As recapped in this fantastical alt-history based on Seth Grahame-Smith's 2010 novel, young Lincoln watched vampires kill his mother and he's been secretly killing the bloodsuckers ever since.

The fiends follow him to Washington, D.C., where Abe engages them in the kind of slo-mo carnage perfected by director Timur Bekmambetov in his earlier big-screen bloodbath, Wanted. The best bit comes at the end of the teaser, when Lincoln (played by Benjamin Walker) practices his swing on a tree. (See more new images from the film in the gallery above.)

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, produced by Tim Burton, opens in 3-D on June 22.
