First Best Buy, now Target. Just last week, Epicenter's Tim Carmody laid out the reasons that a Target and Apple agreement for mini-stores within Target made sense. And now it's happening.
This morning the New York Times reportedthat Target confirmed its plans to test out Apple mini-stores in 25 of its locations in the next year. Implanting itself in Best Buy made sense for Apple to put itself against non-Apple products in a retail environment.
Embedding an Apple store in Target is also logical, but for a different reason: make Apple available for consumers who aren't necessarily looking for electronics. Target already sells mobile Apple products, but the mini-store will feature a wider range.
The Apple mini-stores are part of a larger plan for many stores-within-stores at Target (dubbed The Shops at Target), said to feature local boutiques.
