This is what I'm talking about! Proper, wide-aperture zooms for Micro Four Thirds cameras, coming (hopefully) soon from Panasonic. Micro Four Thirds cameras are great and all, and there are some excellent prime lenses out there, but fast zooms are still somewhat the preserve of the bigger SLRs.
Not anymore. Panasonic's two mockups show a 12-35mm ƒ2.8 and a 35-100mm ƒ2.8. In 35mm terms, that covers every focal length from 24-200, more than enough for most everyday photography. Both lenses are marked as concept designs, and both carry the annoying and now virtually meaningless HD label. Presumably this means that they'll be fast and quiet for video shooting.
I have now sold my Nikon D700, but I still have the lenses, along with a rather crappy adapter that'll put them on the front of my Panasonic GF1. This, coupled with a finally-working Eye-Fi card which beams photos straight to the iPad, is a pretty portable setup. One of these new lenses will make things even better.
