On Wednesday, January 25, Aquaman heads into his next storyline with Aquaman #5; and GeekDad has the exclusive first look. I for one can't wait to read the whole issue! I don't think I'm totally out to sea when I say I haven't always felt that way. But Aquaman has really been moving along swimmingly. Okay, I'm really floundering around with the puns, and it's starting to smell fishy. One last one? Sure thing. The series has blown me out of the water from its first page. That's no exaggeration, either: It sure wasn't expected.
I've never been an Aquaman hater, though I know there are plenty out there. In fact, I've read maybe 50 or so issues from past volumes of the title, plus his Justice League and crossover appearances. I've enjoyed them all, but never would I have ever guessed Aquaman would end up toward the top of The Stack for me. Then, something amazing happened. Blackest Night, Brightest Day and Flashpoint re-introduced the character with a modern bent and gave him a much needed boost of relevancy. When it was announced that fan-favorite writer Geoff Johns was going to be writing an ongoing series after the conclusion of Flashpoint, the reception was extremely positive.
Once DC Comics hit the reboot switch, Aquaman joined 51 other titles with a #1 on the cover. In the first 4 months, alone, Geoff Johns and super-star artist Ivan Reis have gone a long way toward returning the king of Atlantis to the level of an A-lister. The title is rich with tongue-in-cheek humor, sometimes horrific undertones, and its genuinely moving character beats. So, what's next for Arthur and Mera?
Starting with Aquaman #5, we'll get to uncover the histories and mysteries of Atlantis. Why was she sunk? Who was responsible? Here's what the solicits have to say over at DC Comics' website:
Check out the exclusive preview below, and then check back in the near future for what's sure to be an awesome interview with the man himself: Geoff Johns!
