Danish kitchenware supremo Bodum has granted itself a do-over on the worst machine in your kitchen: the coffee-embittering drip machine. The new Bistro is a cross between old-school percolator and currently-fashionable pour-over coffee. And for convenience, it looks hard to beat.

When you wake up, you head--like any rational human--to the kitchen to make coffee. But which method do you choose in your still-sleepy stupor? Warm up the Presso and start weighing out beans for the burr grinder? Nah. Boil the kettle and scoop some grounds into the French press? Maybe. Or--like many coffee abusing Americans--dump the grounds into the dripper, switch it on and head for the shower? Yup!

The drip-machine has many problems which the Bistro Pour Over solves. It heats the water fast, and then sends it through a glass (not metal) pipe, keeping things hot. It then sprinkles the water over the coffee like a shower, wetting it evenly for better extraction. And most important, it doesn't have a hot-plate. The hot-plate is what makes the coffee taste bitter before you make it back from the shower, so Bodum uses a 40-ounce double-walled plastic thermos jug.

Like the rest of the Bistro lineup, it looks good in rubberized plastic (I have the burr grinder and it looks and works great). If you're too lazy or busy to dicker around in the kitchen every morning, ditch your drip and grab one of these for "just" $250.
