Remember Sharp's teeny-tiny 12MP image-stabilized camera sensor? Well it turns out that over in Japan it has already been stuffed into a cellphone. Not only that, but there's a video of it in action:

The phone in question is the Sharp AQUOS SH-01D, a skinned Android handset from Japan's NTT DoCoMo which also packs a 1280 x 720 3D display into its waterproof case.

The video shows the phone on a vibrating platform, aimed at a rather odd balancing toy. You can see two handsets, one with image stabilization on, one off. The difference is huge.

This is exactly the kind of thing phone makers need to be squeezing into their handsets. We don't more more storage-hogging megapixels. We want low-light performance and great image quality. Just like we want from our "real" cameras.
