Well, this beats a boring old Hollywood billboard.

To mark the Blu-ray/DVD release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment enlisted the skills of street artist Anthony Lister to paint a mural dedicated to the film in Los Angeles.

Lister painted the mural, a collage of the story of Rise, on a wall on the ever-hip strip of Melrose Avenue near Fairfax Avenue last weekend. (Click here for a map of the location.) The Australian artist, who just finished several murals for Art Basel Miami Beach, says he's had a lifelong attraction to the franchise.

"“I have been a fan of Planet of the Apes since I was a little kid,” Lister said in a press release. "To create a mural in my style for the release of Rise of the Planet of the Apes is pretty awesome.”

Check out a few photos of Lister creating his mural in the gallery above. Rise of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Rupert Wyatt, is now available on DVD/Blu-ray and in the iTunes Store.
