Some Nikon owners can give themselves an unexpected, free and somewhat nerdy Christmas gift: A Star Wars-themed firmware update.
Last month, Nikon's D5100 firmware was decrypted, opening the way for custom tweaks and hacks. Now, just in time for the New Year, an unofficial firmware update has been created which tweaks the menus of the DSLR, replacing boring old entries like "Shooting Menu" and "Subject is Too Dark" with the way more exciting "Weapon System" and "Dark Side of Force!"
The hack is obviously completely useless, but that doesn't stop it being all kinds of awesome. If you want to apply it to your own Nikon D5100, you can download the file and go about the update as you would with an official firmware update. And don't forget, this is a non-official hack, so buyer beware and all that.
