Dozens of apps can help you track your runs, but Nike+ goes the extra mile by actually helping you tough them out. The app's motivational tools are myriad: Announce your run on Facebook and get real-time cheers in your headphones as friends leave comments or "like" your status; play virtual tag with other runners; or set your favorite jams as PowerSongs for quick deployment when you need a boost that only the Black Eyed Peas can provide. The app uses the iPhone's accelerometer and GPS to measure distance, pace, and duration. When you're done, a map shows your route as a colorful ribbon, with red stretches representing your slowest pace and green showing where you really tore it up.

WIRED Optional voice-over for pace, time, and distance. Motivational clips from celeb athletes like Lance Armstrong.

TIRED No autopause when you have to stop for intersections or loose shoelaces.
