Lego Minecraft: A Real Possibility?

Over at Online Toy News they have been closely following the developments around Minecraft and Lego possibly teaming up, ever since the idea was floated on Lego Cuuso.

The Lego Cuuso Minecraft ideas have begun to go viral and obviously Lego can see the potential in the millions of Minecraft users who are not your standard fans, but very committed to their love of all things Minecraft. It was reported over at Online Toy News that Lego was "excited."

"It is still too early to say whether Minecraft play sets will become a Lego product," said Paal Smith-Meyer, head of the Lego new business group. "It needs 10,000 votes and to go through an approval process to ensure it meets our usual Lego standards."

He added: "We're really excited to see the fantastic enthusiasm of the Minecraft community. This is what Lego Cuusoo is all about, connecting people's passion to the Lego brick."

The match is obvious. The potential large. It will be interesting to see if Minecraft developer Mojang can forge a deal with Lego, though while reports are that they have been talking, Minecraft creator "Notch" has been reported as saying he was personally "not involved in the discussions." This would be a groundbreaking partnership for both companies: for Mojang it would be the startup fairytale, for Lego it would spark a new era where partnerships did not just have to be with large scale production companies.
