BBC Worldwide has recently announced the first ever, official Doctor Who Convention since the show was rebooted in 2005. The event will take place March 24th to 25th, 2012, at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, Wales--a location familiar to all fans. The interior of the centre was the location of the hospital on series two episode "New Earth" and was also a principle location in series six's "The Girl Who Waited" (where it starred as the "kindness facility" on Apalapucia). The exterior will also be familiar to Torchwood fans--as it stands guard over the entrance to the Torchwood facility.
Each day, ticket sales will be capped at 1,500 tickets (the schedule for both days is identical, so you only need attend one). The Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, himself, will be in attendance on both days, along with lead writer and executive producer, Stephen Moffat. They will be joined by many members of the production team who will be giving fans an in-depth look at the show. The programme so far includes a number of theatre sessions, behind-the-scenes sessions, and Q&A's with the cast and crew, along with demonstrations from special-effects and prosthetics experts.
Whilst children will be welcomed, the event is geared toward adults, and the event's website advises that although all material covered will be child-friendly:
The event promises to be a fascinating look at the making of one of the most popular science fiction shows currently on air and GeekMom will be in attendance to share the event with those of you not fortunate enough to be able to attend.
Tickets are on sale now costing £99 (approx. $155) which includes an official Doctor Who Convention souvenir pack.
