The XPrintServer is pretty cool looking, for a print server

Even the die-hard e-inkers among us need to print something on a dead tree from time to time, be it a boarding pass for a flight or... well, there's probably something else. And now, instead of just emailing the document to your local print shop and enjoying some fresh air while you collect it, you can instead buy a small plastic box that will let you print to pretty much any printer from your iOS device.

AirPrint is nice, if you have an AirPrint-enabled printer, or you're happy to leave your Mac switched on. The xPrintServer goes one better, automatically discovering any printers on your network and showing them to your iOS device.

The concept is simple: hook the xPrintServer up via Ethernet and it will interpret any printer's gibberish via drivers which support some 4,000 printers. And that's it. The printers will now show up, wirelessly, in the print panel on your iDevices.

The xPrintServer, which will ship in January of next year, will cost $150, or around 2-3 x the price of a wireless printer.
