The clip (above) introduces the futuristic nation of Panem and packs quite a wallop, even though it only covers the first part of the film. That’s the period during which Katniss (played by X-Men: First Class‘ Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers for the annual Hunger Games — a televised battle to the death among two dozen specially trained teens — to save her sister from the ordeal.
From the visuals of Panem and Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket to the teasing, life-or-death dialogue, director Gary Ross‘ adaptation of the Hunger Games novel is looking intense. And, in a perfect tease, this trailer ends just as the Games begin, leaving us salivating for the next taste.
Author Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games trilogy is beloved by fans and, considering the amount of attention young-adult novel adaptations get these days (Twilight, etc.), a lot will be expected of the film. What say you? Like the look of Panem and District 12? What about Woody Harrelson‘s Haymitch Abernathy? Hit the comments and let us know.
The Hunger Games opens March 23, 2012.
