Group texting is often more efficient than single-recipient SMS and almost always more entertaining. Whether you're coordinating with coworkers at a trade show or just diving into a running SMS romp with friends, GroupMe is the best way to do it. The app will find all the contacts in your address book. Pick a few and fire away. It doesn't matter what platform they're on; as long as they have a texting service, the group conversation will show up chat-room-style. GroupMe also lets you choose whether to receive messages as regular texts (which uses up your monthly SMS quota) or over your data connection (which doesn't, but isn't quite as reliable).

WIRED Search chat histories. Put specific groups on mute when the action gets too frenzied. Conference-call group members with one touch.

TIRED Messages occasionally jump out of order. Only fellow GroupMe users can view shared photos.
