What do you do if you are a huge Warehouse 13 fan and you are stuck in that uncomfortable void between Season 3 and Season 4? Well, the folks over at QMx have created a little toy for all aspiring Claudia Donovans or aspiring Claudia Donovan boyfriends – your very own Farnsworth.
For 99 cents you can download your very own Farnsworth app to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch (4th generation), and create video and audio messages to send to your friends. The app doesn't allow for realtime chat – you have to still head to FaceTime or Skype for that type of activity – but the novelty value of a steampunk-looking app to communicate with your fellow agents makes getting your own Farnsworth a worthwhile endeavor. In fact, it makes me itch to mod my iPhone to a more steampunk-looking design (if only I had such skills). The app comes from QMx Interactive, the software side of Quantum Mechanix, who make the actual Farnsworth props for the show.
The bonus is the folks at what is now left of Warehouse 13 have been sending you messages and you can hear from Artie and Claudia. This also has great potential for ongoing use, as the warehouse could send any number of messages to those who have the app, even between episodes (or seasons, as is currently the case).
There are some limitations: you can only send messages within the app to others who have a Farnsworth communicator (which makes sense; you should only be able to communicate with other Warehouse Agents on the device). However, you can get beyond the app by emailing your video messages to others or uploading them to Facebook.
So, if you wish to join other Warehouse Agents, you'll have to talk with Mrs. Frederic.
Note: Farnsworth works best with mobile iDevices that have a front facing camera
