A new Dragon Age game will feature playable dragons and multiplayer content, according to a Kotaku report published on Wednesday.

Kotaku says it spoke to an "insider" who claims that an upcoming Dragon Age game will contain multiplayer arena-based combat that runs on DICE's Frostbite 2 engine, previously used for Battlefield 3. The insider does not know whether this will be used for the next main Dragon Age game or a spinoff of the fantasy role-playing series.

Neither of the two previous Dragon Age games, which BioWare has released for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, has featured multiplayer.

Late last year, BioWare parent company Electronic Arts said it would shy away from single-player-only games in the future. BioWare's next game, the sci-fi RPG Mass Effect 3, will also feature a multiplayer component, a first for the series.

When asked for confirmation by Wired.com, BioWare said it does not comment on rumors or speculation.
