A new Katamari game titled Touch My Katamari will launch alongside Sony's upcoming portable game device, PlayStation Vita, on February 22, Namco Bandai announced Thursday.
The Katamari series, which originated with the PlayStation 2's Katamari Damacy in 2004, has players pushing along a large, sticky ball called a Katamari in order to roll up various random objects. The more junk you roll up, the bigger the Katamari grows, eventually enabling you to add people and finally entire continents to your sticky ball of death. All this plays out to a soundtrack of funky Japanese beats.
But the Katamari formula has been getting stale lately, with the newest games being little more than glorified expansion packs. Touch My Katamari's spin on things is that it lets players use the Vita's rear touch pad to manipulate their Katamari into compressed shapes, allowing access to previously inaccessible areas.
