The trailer meshes wisecracks, postcard-like vistas and gunplay to impressive effect, hewing to the boisterous formula introduced by director Guy Ritchie in his punchy 2009 Sherlock Holmes movie, which also starred Jude Law as Holmes’ wingman, Dr. Watson.
The adventure this time revolves around Holmes’ effort to figure out what really happened to an Austrian prince who supposedly killed himself, but in fact probably got entangled in a scheme by the detective’s masterful nemesis, Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris).
Spicing up Holmes’ trans-European escapades is the slinky gypsy fortune teller Sim, played by Noomi Rapace in a glamorous departure from her Goth punk performance in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
