Here's the report card so far: Iron Man, great. Thor and Captain America, pretty good. The Avengers, potentially awesome.
But what's next for Marvel Entertainment after Robert Downey Jr. and company show off their teamwork with next May's opening of the Joss Whedon-directed superhero summit flick The Avengers?
Ant-Man. Marvel president of production Kevin Feige told Entertainment Weekly that Adventures of Tintin co-writer Edgar Wright "developed an excellent draft recently" for the flick. And rumor has it that Nathan Fillion will likely play Henry Pym/Ant-Man.
Futuristic comic book Guardians of the Galaxy, first published in 1969, may also get a shot at the big screen, EW reports. "There's an opportunity to do a big space epic, which Thor sort of hints at, in the cosmic side of the [Marvel] universe," Feige said.
Iron Man 3, opening May 2013, re-teams Downey with Shane Black (Lethal Weapon). The writer-director, who launched Downey's comeback in the witty film noir Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, has a knack for crafting funny action scenes and should be able to keep Iron Man/Tony Stark on his toes.
Thor 2 is also moving ahead, although without Shakespearean-actor-turned-action-director Kenneth Branagh at the helm. Instead Patty Jenkins, who steered Charlize Theron to an Oscar with Monster, will likely direct The Nine Worlds sequel.
