My kids like art (well, they like many things - but art is up there). So, I finally noticed this paper hanging on the wall in the study. My wife must has found it somewhere online. Searching, I came up with several slightly different versions (they seem to be credited to Craig Roland). Here is one version from an art blog:
Learning to think like an artist means:
- looking at things more closely than most people do.
- finding beauty in everyday things and situations.
- making connections between different things and ideas.
- going beyond ordinary ways of thinking and doing things.
- looking at things in different ways in order to generate new perspectives.
- taking risks and exposing yourself to possible failure.
- arranging things in new and interesting ways.
- working hard and at the edge of your potential.
- persisting where others may give up.
- concentrating your effort and attention for long periods of time.
- dreaming and fantasizing about things.
- using old ideas to create new ideas and ways of seeing things.
- doing something simply because it’s interesting and personally challenging to do.
Great advice, but not just for artists. Doesn't this also apply to scientists? Oh, and to historians? What about athletes? These aren't inspirational tips just for artists, they are for humans. These are the things that make us humans.
I am not sure if these tips will be useful to extraterrestrials.
