This week's Friday Field Photo isn't from field work or a field trip, but from a vacation I took to Hawai'i a couple years ago. What I love about studying the Earth is that wherever you go, there's the Earth ... doing what the Earth does. Plus, at this moment I'm finding this photograph from the beach on the east shore of Kaua'i particularly soothing.

As you may have noticed, I haven't really written a 'real' post in several weeks. I'm incredibly busy with teaching a new class, writing research proposals, writing/editing papers, getting my lab set up, reviewing papers, organizing conferences, and generally learning the junior faculty ropes. I'm absolutely lovin' it so far, but it leaves little time to write thoughtful blog posts. I'm confident that blogging will fit into this new rhythm, but it may take a bit of time.

Happy Friday!
