"Old heroes never die, they just go bald."
That's the tagline for Dragon Fantasy, a Final Fantasy-inspired role-playing game for iPhone and iPad that resembles old-school 8-bit RPGs both mechanically and aesthetically.
In the vein of other indie RPGs like Cthulu Saves the World, Dragon Fantasy doesn't take itself too seriously, as you can probably tell from the trailer (above). Your hero, Ogden, spent his youthful days rescuing princesses and embarking upon heroic journeys – until he saved the world. Now he's old and fat. This makes life a bit difficult when peace is shattered and he is called to action once again.
Gaming site RPGamer has an entertaining interview up with creator Adam Rippon, who says he's been working on Dragon Fantasy for half of his life.
"It's a story of recapturing glory and youth – something I think a lot of us who grew up with Nintendo and Super Nintendo RPGs can probably relate to these days," Rippon said.
