Back in June, we posted about the funding problems that forced the SETI Institute to shut down their Allen Telescope Array. As mentioned then, the Institute launched SETIstars, a fund-raising drive to try and collect enough money to get the 'scopes back on-line. Well, the good news is that the effort was successful! The following update was posted to the SETIstars site this week:

Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal of getting the ATA back online! Stay tuned for updates. We are discovering more Earth-like planets every day, so now is more critical than ever to look for extraterrestrial life. A contribution from you, today, will fund telescope scans for signs of intelligence beyond our solar system. Please donate and help us find intelligent life out there.

Of course, the SETI Institute will need to arrange reliable funding to keep the radio telescope array in ongoing operation. If you haven't yet donated, please do. And think about adding the SETI Institute to your regular list of charities. As mentioned in the June posting, detection of extra-terrestrial intelligence would be the most profound discovery of our lifetime, so it's incredibly important to keep the project going.
