This clip (above) should be longer. Much, much longer. It's impossible that the best moments in RiffTrax's movie-skewering history could be boiled down into just five minutes.
But yet, here it is: Five years of hilarious movie commentary in roughly the same amount of time it took to CGI-render an eighteenth of a millisecond of Transformers: Dark of the Moon (probably).
For those that don't know, five years ago Mystery Science Theater 3000 alums Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett teamed up to start RiffTrax. They created a massive and wonderful library of snarky audio commentary tracks that could be downloaded and played along with Hollywood blockbuster movies. It was a fairly brilliant idea, and if you've never spent an evening with friends listening to their running commentaries on some random piece of Hollywood schlock, you're just letting the best in life pass you by.
In honor of the enterprise's half-decade, they have released this highlight reel of some of RiffTrax's best moments, mocking everything from Titanic to Highlander. But with dozens upon dozens of films wittily eviscerated, the folks behind RiffTrax have produced so many great one-liners that a true highlight reel could stretch on into a full two-hour film. (In fact, there's easily a half-hour zinger-filled clip special in just the riffs done during the first Twilight movie, but that's neither here nor there.)
This clip isn't as good as watching an entire RiffTrax presentation, but it ain't bad. Happy wood anniversary, fellas!
