After a moody start, a new fan film inspired by the videogame Portal shifts into high gear with a gripping interdimensional chase sequence. The scenario: An entrapped woman (played by Danielle Rayne) blasts out of her cell with a little help from the mighty Portal Gun.

The seven-minute Portal: No Escape short, which debuted last month at Comic-Con International, blew up online Wednesday with nearly 700,000 views and counting after podcaster/filmmaker/game fanatic Dan Trachtenberg uploaded the piece to YouTube.

Taking his cue from the Valve videogame, Trachtenberg, co-host of The Totally Rad Show, cranked up the story's verisimilitude with special effects by John Chesson.
