Ah, the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The challenging track that Jackie Stewart dubbed "The Green Hell" has been hallowed ground from the earliest days of auto racing, located in the heart of a country rife with automotive history.
The famed track hosts the 10th round of the 2011 Formula 1 season this weekend, and Mercedes-Benz hopes to see Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg grab a fistful of points at their home grand prix.
Before the two hotshoes took to the track for practice sessions this week, they took a few laps of the 'ring in a pair of Mercedes-Benz W196 Formula 1 cars. These are the same machines Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss raced in 1954 and 1955, winning nine out of 12 races.
The cars are every bit as gorgeous now as they were then -- especially the streamliner Schumi's driving.
