Mounting melodrama takes surreal shape in "Estate Sale Sign," the newest video from prolific rock outfit The Mountain Goats.
Animated by Brooklyn's Awesome and Modest using handcrafted mixed media, the new Mountain Goats reel, released Wednesday, finds an estranged couple metamorphosing into monsters as they chase each other across shifting landscapes, trying to capture a snow globe symbolic of their previous unity. It's a phantasmagoric trip, set to one of John Darnielle's most urgent rockers about the detritus our relationships, large and small, can produce when everything goes wrong.
"Estate Sale Sign" can be found on The Mountain Goats' latest album, All Eternals Deck, released in March. The band is touring with Bright Eyes starting Wednesday in New York, with stops at Lollapalooza in August and the Jeff Magnum-curated All Tomorrow's Parties festival in December.
