Welcome back ye olde solvers of conundrums and confoundaries (yes I made that one up -- it'll catch on). This week's puzzle was a standard logic puzzle with a little twist. Let's recap the puzzle, then announce the winner of this week's $50.00 ThinkGeek Gift Certificate.
Puzzle
The four brave knights -- Sir Ken, Sir Matt, Sir Jonathan, and the mysterious Sir Z -- rode off on a quest to rid the village of Geekdom of four dragons: a red dragon, a green dragon , a black dragon, and a gold dragon. The knights all left the same day but returned victorious on different days. Given the clues below, can you figure out which knight killed which dragon, which order he came in and what crest he wore?
- The knight with the wolf crest returned last.
- Sir Ken, who didn't battle the Green Dragon, returned before Sir Matt
- Sir Z returned before the knight that battled the gold dragon
- The knight who wore the eagle crest battled the green dragon
- The knight that returned first wore the giffin crest and Sir Jonathan returned last.
- The knight that returned second vanqhished the green dragon
- Sir Matt battled the gold dragon, and the knight who battled the red dragon returned before the knight that battled the black dragon.
Solution
Well as many of you noted we have four knights and only three crests. That's right there were only three crests because Sir Matt was Sir Matt the Crestless. After his victory over the gold dragon he was awarded his crest: a Tauntaun. Here is the complete solution:
First - Sir Ken, Wearing the Griffen Crest, Slew The Red Dragon
Second - The Mysterious Sir Z, Wearing the Eagle Crest, Slew The Green Dragon
Third - Sir Matt, The Crestless, Slew The Gold Dragon
Fourth - Sir Jonathan, Wearing the Wolf Crest, Slew The Black Dragon
