The Nissan GT-R shook the world of fast cars to its core when it was released in 2008, obliterating more powerful, and expensive, machinery from heralded automakers to set a new lap record at the Nurburgring.
The car known as Godzilla slayed its challengers not with raw power, but advanced electronics that made it faster and more controllable than any car before it. The Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC SE promises to do the same thing for motorcycles, using launch control, wheelie control, traction control and quickshift optimized for performance rather than safety.
But, which revolutionary vehicle is faster -- the Aprilia or Godzilla? Aprilia USA invited Hell for Leather and Tangent Vector to find out.
The lap times presented in this video are accurate and the comparison is objective. Both vehicles are showroom stock, including the tires. Both are operated by professional racers with no connection to Aprilia or Nissan, but we can't identify them for contractual reasons. They went at it on the "Monticello Mushroom" at Monticello Motor Club, and we specifically and emphatically told them not to hold back. There is no sandbagging here. What you see really happened, and it happened throughout the day we spent filming this.
Honestly, on a technical track with only one short straight, we expected the Nissan GT-R to be faster.
