Trollhunter's title character wields a lightsaber in a new spoof video that borrows from a pivotal showdown in The Empire Strikes Back.
In "The Troll Hunter Strikes Back," Hans the armored troll exterminator speaks with the familiar voice of Darth Vader as he faces off against a giant beast that's channeling Luke Skywalker.
"One of the creatures in The Trollhunter is missing an arm. When I first saw that, I knew I had to make this Empire tribute!" writes videomaker superduperrune on the YouTube page where the clip is uploaded. "What I've done is to take the scene from Empire Strikes Back, erase the existing characters, and then animate and re-composite the characters from Trollhunter into the Empire footage. It's a pretty complex animation job, and it took me around three weeks of spare time to finish."
You're certainly familiar with Empire. But if you haven't seen Trollhunter, a clever update of Norwegian mythology by director André Øvredal, here's a little background. In Øvredal's indie mockumentary, the massive trolls don't talk – they shriek and roar like thunder. And Hans the troll hunter is more disgruntled government worker than powerful Sith lord.
Trollhunter, rated PG-13, is in theaters and available on demand now.
