Ghosts, surgical instruments and shower scenes find their way into the R-rated drama, which offers a supernatural variation on the "sane woman unjustly locked away" subgenre typified by Frances, Angelina Jolie's Changeling and Sucker Punch.
The Ward opens July 8.
