I’m back in the states after one of the most fascinating meetings I’ve ever attended. IdeaCity brought together a wonderful variety of authors, scientists, musicians, and writers for three days of discussion to share ideas. The absolute highlight for me was an inspiring talk by photographer Rick Smolan and Natasha Pruss. Here’s the TED version:
Other favorite presentations included:
Dan Gardner’s terrific talk about the psychology behind why smart people believe “bullshit”
Paul Bloom’s explanation of why we value what we do
Lily Frost’s beautiful voice
Stuart Kim’s genetics research related to how we may increase longevity
Mark Siddall’s riveting and funny lecture on leeches
Diana Reiss’ moving work with dolphins
Rick Miller’s magnificent one man performance
Christopher Ryan and Cacilda Jethá’s Sex at Dawn lecture
And that’s only the beginning…
All of the talks will be online soon and I encourage readers to watch. I was part of the final session and will post the video here when it becomes available.
