The European truck most noted for its complete badassedness is the Mercedes-Benz Unimog — a vehicle so large Daimler decided Americans would find it offensively huge. LEGO is celebrating the truck's 60th anniversary with a 2,000+ piece Unimog U 400 that's the largest Technic set ever sold.
[partner id="jalopnik"]The incredibly awesome Unimog is used by militaries, governments, construction companies and anyone else who needs a vehicle as tough as it is gigantic. The 'Mog also is widely considered the go-to vehicle in any post-apocalyptic situation. Though rare in the United States, they can be found if you're patient.
The first "Universal-Motor-Geräts (tool)" rolled off the line June 3, 1951, in Gaggenau, and Mercedes-Benz has built more than 380,000 in the years since. LEGO is celebrating the illustrious anniversary with a Unimog Technic kit that is, fittingly, the largest ever sold. The model 'Mog is 1:12.5 scale, but even at that size it'll tower over most of your LEGO vehicles.
Cool features on the model mimic the real 'Mog, including a pneumatically operated crane with a gripper arm that'll rotate 360 degrees, a front winch and an optional snow plow. As with other Technic models, the level of detail is incredible. The toy — if you can call it that — goes on sale in August and will cost about $250.
Is it Half-Christmas yet?
