I've been involved with music most of my life -- singing, 11 years of piano lessons, fanatical devotion to various bands, etc. -- but I've never considered myself any kind of composer. Maybe that'll change with my new addiction to ToneMatrix, a fun music creation and visualization program, available free online.
Created by electronic audio whiz André Michelle, the Flash-based program is described as "a simple sinewave synthesizer triggered by an ordinary 16-step sequencer." Not being an electronic audio whiz myself, I don't know what that means. But I do know that once I started lighting up little squares and hearing their corresponding tone patterns, I got hooked on creating catchy little electronic ditties. The interface is so simple that even my 3-year-old can handle it with ease. Enjoy!
