Hothead Games is working on a sequel to DeathSpank as well as a game based on classic sci-fi franchise The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the developer said Wednesday.

The Baconing will continue the hack-and-slash adventures of the eponymous DeathSpank and will be available as a downloadable title for consoles, PC and Mac this summer. The game will also feature a more involved combat system than previous DeathSpank titles, including cover points and smarter baddies, according to Kotaku. The game will see DeathSpank making his way to the Fires of Bacon in order to "destroy the evil power of the thongs." Naturally.

DeathSpank received critical acclaim, scoring a 9 out of 10 from Wired.com and making our list of best games of 2010. This will be the first DeathSpank game without series creator Ron Gilbert, who left Hothead last year to work for Double Fine.

Though Hothead didn't share any details about the upcoming Hitchhiker's Guide project, the Swarm developer did offer up a teaser website and a joke-filled press release. The comedic sci-fi franchise, started by the late Douglas Adam as a BBC radio series in 1978, has become a geek staple, spawning books, games, a television series and more.
