Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the first manned space flight. On April 12th, 1961, Yuri Gagarin was launched aboard the Vostok 1 to orbit the earth and return safely. Since 2001, April 12th has been celebrated as Yuri's Night. A couple of months ago, I told you how you could start your own Yuri's Night party. There are now over 425 parties around the world this week — including virtually in Second Life — which is a new record for the event.
Although it's probably a little too late to plan your own party, there's plenty of time to find one to attend. Some of the parties were this past weekend, but most are tomorrow night through this coming Saturday. Check out the Yuri's Night listings either using a handy event map or consult the event list.
I'll be in Washington, DC, at theScience Club Yuri's Night partyto enjoy happy hour specials, listen to some music, and maybe try my hand at the LEGO building contest or a trivia contest to win some prizes provided by ThinkGeek. The main thing is to commune with space enthusiasts.
If you end up at a party tomorrow night or anytime this week, let us know!
