Disney will pull back the curtain on Star Tours: The Adventures Continue, a revamped version of its classic Star Wars theme park attraction, this spring.
George Lucas calls it "Star Tours on overdrive." The summer issue of Disney twenty-three magazine, a publication of Disney's official fan club D23, features an interview with the Star Wars creator in which he talks about the refurbished ride, and Wired.com has an exclusive first look.
The new motion-simulator rides at Disneyland and Walt Disney Resort will feature a variety of branching story paths with characters like Darth Vader, Yoda and Admiral Ackbar. All in all, 54 different combinations of story sequences can occur after Star Wars fans board the rides' Starspeeder 1000 vehicles.
"We now have many Annual Passholders who visit multiple times, so we need to keep our attractions as surprising as possible," says Tom Fitzgerald, Walt Disney Imagineering executive vice president and the creative director of the new ride, in the magazine feature written by Lucasfilm's head of fan relations, Steve Sansweet. "That's where we got the idea of multiple stories for Star Tours."
The summer 2011 issue of Disney twenty-three goes on sale May 3.
