Dr. Sudoku Prescribes: Outside Sudoku

In this week’s prescription, Outside Sudoku, all the numbers in the puzzle have left the grid and you'll need to find a way to put them back in.

Thomas Snyder (aka Dr. Sudoku) is a two-time World Sudoku Champion and five-time U.S. Puzzle Champion, as well as the author of several books of puzzles. His puzzles are handcrafted, with artistic themes, serving as a kind of "cure for the common Sudoku." Each week he posts a new puzzle on his blog, The Art of Puzzles. In this week's prescription, Outside Sudoku, all the numbers in the puzzle have left the grid and you'll need to find a way to put them back in.

I was planning to write a regular Sudoku this week, but with the warmer spring weather all the numbers decided to go outside to enjoy the sun. Solve the puzzle by finding a way to put them back into the grid (they haven't traveled too far).

Rules: Enter a digit from 1 to 9 into each cell so that no digit repeats in any row, column or bold 3x3 region. The digits outside the grid must appear in one of the first three cells encountered from that edge of the grid (for example, a digit above the grid must be in one of the first three rows of the puzzle, in the same column as that clue number appears).
