Superman is such a massive character that, at times, writers have complained that he’s a little too large to empathize with. Thankfully, he has always had a rich stable of friends and family to play off. Even with Superman removed from the spotlight, most of these characters can pull their own weight, story-wise. A few have even done so within the pages of their own spin-off titles.
You probably already know the friends, family and pets inhabiting the super-verse. Just in case, though, here’s a quick rundown before you vote for your favorite.
Lois Lane – So much more than “Superman’s Girlfriend.” She has helped save the day so often she should have a cape.
Jimmy Olsen – Practically Superman’s damsel-in-distress in every story he’s in. Despite that, he has a great heart and is pretty good at the whole comic relief bit.
Cat Grant – She’s the very best at what she does. Of course, it doesn’t help anyone that what she does is act like a total witch.
Chloe Sullivan – With a season left in Smallville, DC Comics finally brought her in, and it was in a back-up story. Hopefully we’ll be seeing more of her in the main story.
Ron Troupe – A man of integrity. Wonder what he thinks of his ex’s switch over to the dark side as Superwoman.
Steve Lombard – Pretty much the male Cat Grant. He is too cool for school. Don’t believe me? Just ask him.
Maggie Sawyer – I so hated to see her go over to Gotham. Back in the day, when she ran the Metropolis SCU, she always had Superman’s back.
Dan “Terrible” Turpin – Before he went on to play host for Darkseid, this guy was the take-no-crap, super-cop that rode literal shotgun with Maggie Sawyer’s SCU.
Ma and Pa Kent – I promise you this, if I ever send my son into space to hurtle toward a new planet, I want him to be found by Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Lana Lang – Home wrecker. Kidding, she’s not. But man, does she want to be one. Some fans wish she would do it, too.

Pete Ross – Second fiddle. This guy wound up with Lana Lang when Clark flew off to the big city, and he was bumped to president from vice-president when Superman and Batman brought down President Luthor.
Over the years, we’ve witnessed so many people take on the S-Shield, but what about pets? Dogs, cats, horses, monkeys. Didn’t I have a Super-Woodchuck issue lying around somewhere?
