An Uncanny X-Men variant cover dresses up the Marvel Comics' mutants in the San Francisco Giants' familiar orange and black colors. The variant – a limited edition that pays tribute to the 2010 World Series champs and will likely garner the attention of baseball fans as well as comics collectors – will be sold exclusively at Marvel's booth at the WonderCon convention in the city by the bay.
"Being from San Francisco, I am ecstatic about how strong Marvel's presence will be at WonderCon this year," said Axel Alonso, Marvel's Editor-In-Chief, in a press release. "And with San Francisco now the adopted hometown of the X-Men, it just made perfect sense to create a variant for this show which celebrated the city and its achievements."
The Uncanny X-Men No. 534 variant, created by artist Giuseppe Camuncoli, will mark Marvel's first appearance as an exhibitor at the convention, which is operated by the organization that runs Comic-Con International in San Diego. Much like its Southern California sibling, the San Francisco event has been growing as it embraces Hollywood studios hawking comics-based movies.
Now in its 25th year, WonderCon runs April 1 to 3.
