Such a calm, uneventful week, right? Sure, if you don't count the drones on the way to your parks, bunkers full of weapons hidden by Moammar Gadhafi, and Darpa's plans to rebuild human tissue with magnets (however they work). Also cross off the Defense Department's reluctance to shoot down Libyan planes, the Marines' growing pains with social media and the Navy's enthusiasm for self-replicating robots. Pay no attention to the rise of (mostly crummy) insurgent bombs in Afghanistan, the Air Force's hypersonic glider, or anything about Russian stealth jets. And definitely don't listen to Defense Secretary Robert Gates when he warns against future land wars and the Air Force's "nostalgia" for air combat.
But the thing is, we listen to all that stuff, and that's why we're freaked out at this wicked world of peril. We need the weekend to calm our nerves and then we'll get back into it.
