Can you feel that essential Hugo Weaving menace even through the Red Skull's mask?

New Captain America: The First Avenger images released Friday demonstrate how Hollywood plans to update the Nazi villain dreamed up in 1941 by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon.

Veteran actor Weaving, a shrewd portrayer of villains in movies like The Matrix trilogy and V for Vendetta, certainly looks ominous as the star-spangled Avenger's frequent foe, the Red Skull.

Here's an advance look at heroes and villains from Marvel Entertainment's Captain America: The First Avenger, which opens July 22.
