My son is night and day different from his sister. When she was a baby, she loved books from very early on. She would sit and look at the pictures while we read to her. My little boy however, would rather squirm out of your lap, tearing the book from your hand as he goes and crawl away to destroy it in private. Needless to say, not many books hold his attention.

We recently came upon a new book called Baby Hears: A Lift-the-Flap Hear-the-Sound Book. The illustrations are brightly colored and will easily capture a child's eye. They also give the adult reading plenty of vocabulary to expand upon, such as shapes, colors, and things in the environment. Each page of the book features a baby discovering something in his environment from a peeping chick to a croaking frog. The flaps are large and easy for a baby to lift. Upon lifting the flap, a light sensor sets off the sound.

I really enjoyed this book, but the ultimate test would be if it held my 10-month-old son's attention. The first time we read it, he sat on the floor and watched, which in and of itself was impressive. When we were done, he turned the book over and looked at me as if to say "Let's read it again!". I have left the book on the floor and he has crawled over to it and begun looking at it on his own. He will sit on the floor and lift the flap over and over. My only complaints about this book are the corners of the cover are sharp and not baby friendly. Second, the pages are made out of thick card stock, but my son has already managed to tear several of the pages. I think the book would be more sturdy if it were a board book. I would not let either issue deter you from buying this book for your little one. My son and I definitely recommend it.
