Your Scene Sucks is a website, and now a book, devoted to mocking a wide variety of hipster, geek and alternative lifestyle stereotypes. Creator Rob Dobi's observations are often spot on, if a bit cynical and at times mean spirited. In contrast the illustrations are fun and clever, revealing a deeper affection for the subjects then the accompanying text would have you believe.
While the website and subsequent book have been popular with scenes haters and scene lovers alike, it's also attracted controversy. It's all fun and games until you recognize your gear in a doodle. Maybe it's too much to expect targets to laugh along with you, especially when there are so many fantastic things about many of the scenes that are satirized.
Illustrator, writer, costumer, steampunk enthusiast and Vice Chair of Steamcon III (a steampunk convention in Seattle) Diana Vick has a great perspective to share, based on her reaction to the book.
