If there's one thing the videogame industry desperately lacks, it's zombies. That's why Telltale Games is launching an episodic game series based on critically acclaimed comic franchise The Walking Dead.

IGN has a few brief details on the adaptation, which Telltale says will be a multi-year, multi-platform and multi-title. Just like AMC's recent TV adaptation of The Walking Dead, which aired last fall, Telltale's games will focus on a group of people trying to survive the aftermath of a devastating zombie apocalypse.

Telltale is best known for episodic adventure games like Tales of Monkey Island and Sam & Max. Though the company wouldn't confirm any genres, platforms or other specific information for The Walking Dead, we can expect to see the first game in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Telltale will also release a series based on comic franchise Fables, which consists of a series of interpretive stories based on characters from various fairy tales.
