Maybe you don't know Dan Meyer - but you should. Dan is an all around math-teaching expert and master video maker. Seriously. If they had an Emmy for short educational videos, he would win. Watch this.
Cheese Cubes from Dan Meyer on Vimeo.
Why is this so awesome?
- Visually, this is very attractive. It is just interesting to watch even without some modeling in mind. It is art.
- This is just the beginning. There are so many questions that this video asks. I don't even know if I can name them.
- Most of Dan's videos (and curriculum) follow this same idea. Pose an interesting question. This does that.
Just like a pebble that starts an avalanche, this video does the same with questions:
- How long would the big chunk take to melt?
- Does melting depend on surface area? Volume? Placement in the microwave?
- What if I have a party and I want to make a melted cheese dish? What size cubes should I make? Would it be faster on the stove top?
